GEDI is our Glenoaks Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion team, consisting of parents and staff. GEDI is open for all families to join in our mission to create a welcoming and representative environment for all of our students. We strive to nurture a culture of belonging, where every student feels seen and heard because children are better able to learn and grow when they are in an environment where they feel safe and connected.
Some of GEDI ‘s previous work includes:
- Cultural Festival -An evening with our Glenoaks community sharing our culture, heritage, traditions and family with each other
- Distributed Kindness Grams over Valentine’s to each student
- Hosted Movie Night celebrating Hispanic & Latine Heritage Month
- Provided classrooms and students with multi-cultural art supplies, including crayons, colored pencils, paints and construction paper.
- Provided skin tone bandages for the nurse’s office
- Provided teacher and classroom resources to encourage and inspire connection and empathy building
- Hosted a series of 6 Parent Ed Speakers, discussing topics such as Social Emotional Support, Neurodiversity, Native American Heritage, Gender Identity and Community Support and more.
- Presented and successfully saw through, GUSD’s districtwide adoption of Armenian American Heritage Month
- Partnered with our librarian, Mrs. Guzik, to have monthly virtual libraries created, highlighting observances, cultures, and leaders in an elementary-friendly way.
GEDI is dedicated to learning and leading together in this work to engage, support and advance the Glenoaks Community, while partnering with Glendale Unified School District to ensure all students receive an equitable education.
